Looking back to my first experience in a wine shop, I was looking for that "Special" wine to serve at a dinner party. Before I walked in, I had some idea of what I wanted, but when I looked up to scan the shelves, I was overwhelmed. "There are so many wines, I pondered, and so many price ranges. Which one should I choose? So I took a deep breath, boldly pick up a bottle that seemed to look impressive, and I bought it. Then I crossed my fingers, hoping my dinner guests will like my selection.

This may have a little whimsical note to it, but the truth is, it is a very common occurrence for many a wine beginner, and even for the intermediate drinker. With so many varietals lined up before you it can be a very daunting experience. But it doesn't have to be that way. Wine should be an enjoyable experience, not an intimidating one!
